The University Council Executive Committee met on September 10, 2025, in the Peabody Board Room. A quorum being present, Chair Derrick Lemons called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.
Chair Susan Sanchez of the University Curriculum Committee was on-hand to present action items. Other guests to the meeting included Duc Do, Katie Ireland, Paula Lemons, Nathan Moore, Stacey Neuharth-Pritchett, Josh Rubin, Lee Shearer, Elizabeth Weeks, Yaguang Xi, and Anisa Zvonkovic.
Chair Lemons opened the meeting by providing an overview of the duties and role of the Executive Committee in faculty governance and welcomed new members to the committee.
- Minutes: As the first order of business, a motion was made by Daniel Johnson that were seconded by Brian Seagraves to approve the minutes from the March 26, 2025, meeting. A vote was called, and the minutes were unanimously approved.
- Action Items:
- Proposals from the University Curriculum Committee:
- Proposal for a Minor in Cancer Therapeutics. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal for a Minor in Children's and Young Adult Literature. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal to offer the existing major in Social Studies Education (M.Ed.) online. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal to terminate the major in Reading Education (M.Ed.) on the Athens campus only. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal to terminate the major in Music Education (Ed.D.). A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal for the following institute name change. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.

- To: David Ralston Institute for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities
- Proposal to offer the existing major in English Education (M.A.T.) online. A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Proposal to deactivate the major in Water and Soil Resources (B.S.E.S.). A vote was called, and the proposal was unanimously approved to be placed on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Information Items:
- From the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost:
- Dissolution of the Center for Archaeological Sciences. This will appear as an information item on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Dissolution of the Center for Business Analytics and Insights. This will appear as an information item on the September 24, 2025, University Council agenda.
- Report from the Faculty Representative to the USG Faculty Council. Derrick Lemons, the faculty representative to the USG Faculty Council, provided a report to the Executive Committee.
- Old Business: There was no old business to come before the committee.
- New Business: There was no new business to come before the committee.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
