04/27/2020 12:00 PM - Matter of Particular Urgency- Email Vote
View Related Documents Online The Executive Committee considered and approved the following proposals via an email vote on April 27, 2020.  The proposals will appear on the agenda of the first meeting of the University Council in fall 2020 for a confirmation vote:

Background: At the end of the spring 2020 semester, the University Curriculum Committee approved several proposals that the faculty, schools, and colleges requested to have available for students for fall semester 2020. If the Executive Committee delayed consideration of these proposals until the first University Council meeting in the fall semester, the schools and colleges would not be able to advertise and recruit students for these programs. Many of the programs have an application deadline of July 1 for students seeking to enroll in the fall.  Some of the programs are online offerings that will particularly benefit students given the current situation.

Because no more University Council meetings are scheduled for the remainder of the academic year, the full University Council cannot consider these pending proposals until the fall semester.  Under the bylaws section I.I.B.8., the Executive Committee is empowered to act "in matters of particular urgency, on behalf of the full Council."  Due to the benefits to students to have these programs available this fall, the Executive Committee agreed that this section of the bylaws regarding votes in matters of particular urgency should be applied to these proposals.

Accordingly, the Executive Committee conducted an email vote the week of April 27. The final vote was 21-0 in favor of approving all proposals. These proposals will next appear on the agenda of the first University Council meeting in fall 2020 for a confirmation vote.

Respectfully submitted,

Fiona Liken, Registrar
Secretary to University Council
