The University Council met on March 16, 2016 at the Tate Theatre for its fourth meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year. A quorum being present, President Jere Morehead called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.

As the first item of business on the agenda, the minutes of the February 17, 2016 meeting were approved as distributed.

President Morehead then presented the following report to the Council:

  • The President began his report by expressing his thanks and appreciation to the many students who spent Spring Break volunteering at 20 different service projects in 12 states through the Student Affairs Impact Program. The President thanked these students along with other groups at UGA who contributed to service projects over Spring Break for a job well done representing the University.
  • Since Council last met, the UGA Miracle program, which holds an annual marathon, raised over one million dollars to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, an over 50% increase over last year's amount raised.
  • Many students also spent their Spring Break working UGA recruitment events by visiting a number of key high schools in Georgia.

The University expects to enroll about 5,300 new students. The President reported that the quality and diversity of the applicant pool has increased over last year's record.
